Restorative Practices

Overview

Restorative Practices Overview

Restorative Practices is a framework that is based on seven core principles:

1. The true self in everyone is good, wise, and powerful

2. The world is profoundly interconnected

3. All human beings have a deep desire to be in a good relationship

4. All humans have gifts, everyone is needed for what they bring

5. Everything we need to make positive change is already here

6. Human beings are holistic

7. We need practices to build habits of living from the core self

that guide our practices and how we interact with one another. It is a strength-based model that focuses on cooperation, community, collaboration, and capacity for change within the educational setting to increase academic engagement. The outcome being a healthier, smarter, and safer school community.

What does Restorative Practices look like at Washington?

Within the Washington framework, Restorative Practices will be incorporated through our Tier system.   Tier One will be done through conducting circles, formulating relationships, and building community within the classroom setting. Tier Two will focus on skill building, one on one coaching, and strategies to increase academic engagement and Tier Three will focus on bringing all stakeholders together in repairing harm and reintegrating into the school environment.
