FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCE

Family and Consumer Sciences education is a part of the Saint Paul Public School Career and Technical Education Program, empowering individuals and families through the lifespan to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. The unique focus is on families, work, and their interrelationships, filling the skills gap.

Family and Consumer Sciences education has roots in both academic and career/technical education and reaches beyond the educational system into the community as it focuses on the needs of individuals and families.

What is FACS?

Our Career and Technical Education courses often utilize a hands-on style of learning that promotes the attainment of technical skills and helps students gain an understanding of how academic concepts are used in the workplace. Our programs can help students learn about, explore and prepare for a career.

Washington Technology Magnet career and technical education programs are designed to be the first part of a program of study that continues for up to two years beyond high school at a state technical college or community college.

Some of the courses offer opportunities for students to earn college credits during high school
